However, according to Economic Daily News, this won’t stop Apple from integrating a fingerprint sensor. The company will instead use an onscreen solution for authentication. Though we can’t verify the validity of these sources, it’s worth noting that it does line up with previous rumors. Reports that stretch back to 2015 suggest that Apple has been researching such technology for a while, but ran into production issues. More recent rumors said Apple wanted to finalize the design by May. This would line up with the usual mass production in July. With the tenth-anniversary edition of the iPhone coming up, Apple will have do something more special than remove ports, and this could be just that. In terms of security, TSMC says the feature could be joined by iris and facial recognition. Accuracy would come from a new, high-pixel density camera with advanced PrimeSense technology. That functionality may also enable AR capabilities.
Change in Aspect Ratio
Of course, not having a home button on its chin opens the iPhone up to some design changes, especially in screen size. Economic News Daily claims there will be a new aspect ratio of 18.5:9 rather than the previous 16:9. That screen will apparently be edge-to-edge OLED and augmented with a redesigned glass and steel chassis. That’s may bump the price up quite a bit, though it will probably launch alongside two regular 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch phones. All three devices are expected to land in Fall. We’ll see then if the information holds true.
